BeneSpore™ BV379 Probiotic Shown to Help Reduce Bloating—Without Disrupting Your Gut Microbiome

Abdominal bloating is a common and uncomfortable issue for many people, even those who are otherwise healthy. While probiotics are often recommended for digestive health, not all strains are created equal—and not all have been rigorously tested in healthy adults. A new study published in the Journal of the American Nutrition Association takes a close look at the effects of a specific probiotic, BeneSpore Bacillus velezensis BV379, on bloating and gut health.

What Did the Clinical Trial Test?

Garvey et al conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with 80 healthy adults (mean age: 50 years). Participants took either BV379 (2 billion CFU per day) or a placebo for 8 weeks. The main goal was to see if BV379 could reduce common digestive symptoms like bloating, burping, and gas. The study also checked for any changes in blood markers, gut barrier function, and the overall composition of the gut microbiome.

What Were the Results?

  • Safety: The probiotic was well-tolerated, with no serious side effects or negative changes in blood tests or gut barrier function.
Many people are hesitant to try new supplements for fear of side effects or disrupting their gut health. This study shows that Bacillus velezensis BV379 is safe, well-tolerated, and may offer targeted relief for bloating—without disturbing the gut’s natural balance. The researchers believe the benefit may come from BV379’s ability to produce digestive enzymes, including cellulase that helps break down fiber, reducing the gas and discomfort that can lead to bloating.

What next?
As a spore-forming bacteria, BeneSpore™ BV379 has good resilience and viability across food and drink applications, including RTM, gummies, bakery, tea and coffee, and sparkling water. For more information, contact the Actus team.
